C. 40 2001 ASSESSMENT OF THE OFFICE OF NAVAL RESEARCH’S AIRCRAFT TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM 8 Special Aviation Projects OVERVIEW The special aviation projects thrust is essentially a management umbrella for coordination, administration, and technical review of system-level efforts involving substantial funding. Currently this thrust consists of two projects, the impetus for which came from outside the normal ONR program development process: (1) vectoring extremely short takeoff and landing control, tailless operational research (VECTOR) and (2) vectored thrust ducted propeller (VTDP) compound helicopter.
